Marty Hiller for Common Council

I’m running again for Common Council because I continue to believe my progressive values and practical leadership skills can benefit the City of Ithaca. Our City is facing many challenges: recovering from the aftermath of the pandemic, burnout and dissatisfaction among City staff, setbacks to progress on our Green New Deal, employee opposition to our Reimagining Public Safety plans, an ongoing lack of equitable housing, and the social consequences of systematic inequality. My experience in community organizing, which includes past leadership roles at Ecovillage at Ithaca, White Hawk Ecovillage, and the Ithaca Community Gardens, has given me a broad range of governance skills, and my personal history as a low-income only parent has left me with a wealth of compassion for the people who too often fall through the cracks when supports are inadequate.
